Time needed: 35 minutes.

How to make a peel off face mask is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time now. As a beauty blogger, I’m always looking for the easiest and most innovative DIY masks on the market. These are my favorite DIY peeling masks because they’re easy to make and easier to use!

This homemade peel off face mask recipe is the easiest to follow. It only takes a few minutes to prepare, and you can do it at home. All you need are five ingredients, including organic lemon juice, honey and tea tree oil.

Peel off face masks are so much fun, and now you can learn how to make a DIY face mask with ease! A peel off face mask is a fun thing to have around the house. You can wear it to school, work or a party.

This DIY peel off face mask is how I found out what eye makeup remover does when applied to skin. So, enjoy this video and try making a homemade peel off face mask for yourself.

With this DIY peel off face mask, you can make an inexpensive and effective peel off mask at home. It makes a ton of product and can be used for many applications. I loved using it to exfoliate even the driest parts of my skin leaving behind smooth baby pumpkin softness!

If you’re looking for an alternative to a peel off face mask or just don’t want to splurge the cash on one, then you can make your own at home with ingredients you already have. After using this method myself over the past few years it has always been a go-to when I want to remove blackheads and other impurities from my skin. It’s also great for people who have sensitive skin and tend to react to store bought face masks.

Peel off face mask is not always the easiest to make, but once you get the hang of it you’ll wonder why you haven’t made one sooner! There are so many different ways to apply and remove a peel off face mask, as shown in my DIY peel off face mask video tutorial. I love these things because they really feel like a super spa facial treatment and leave my face feeling super smooth and very well cleansed. Give it a try, but make sure you use an old towel since these facial masks do tend to get messy!

Materials needed:
1. Eggs
2. 1 table spoon coconut oil
3. 1 table spoon lemon juice
4. Paper towel

  1. Crack an egg

Let’s get started. Crack an egg (into a bowl). Beat it until it turns into an emulsion. Beat for 5 minutes. It’ll feel like you’ve used up all the energy in your body, but you haven’t. I promise. Making an egg face mask may seem strange to you at first, but it’s a popular go-to recipe.

Yep that’s right, all you need to do is crack an egg, mix it up with some salt (optional) and a few drops of water. The first thing you’ll need to do is crack an egg into a bowl. Eggs are the best natural source we have for proteins. You can see why chickens love them so much.

But for our face masks, we won’t be using fresh eggs because they are hard to peel off of skin without any residue (plus even the whites might be too much for some people with sensitive skin). Just reach in and pop open the egg with your fingers. It may take a bit of elbow grease, but the egg will give way.

What you might not know it that egg white is a natural base for different face masks. That’s right, get ready to make your own peel-off face mask! The ingredients are pretty simple: 1 egg (or several if you’re feeling luxurious), honey and lemon juice, and the rest is up to you.

  2. Add coconut oil

The next step in how to make a peel off face mask is to add the coconut oil. Coconut oil is beneficial as it contains a high percentage of saturated fats, including caprylic and capric acid (approximately 65%). This means that it will help to add moisture back into your skin and make you feel like you have beautiful, smooth skin.

In the second step, you’ll be adding a few tablespoons of coconut oil. That may seem like a lot but it will gradually get absorbed into your skin over time (i.e. as you wait for your peel off mask to harden). Coconut oil is great because it’s very hydrating, so it’s perfect for dry winter months when your skin needs a boost.

When choosing the best DIY face masks to make at home, coconut oil should definitely be included. Not only can this oil even out your skin’s imbalances, but it can also provide tons of health benefits for your skin.

This is the part where you add the coconut oil into your mixture. I used about 3-4 tablespoons — it’s always better to start with less and go up until you get to a consistency that would work for you. When your mask is too dry, it tends not to stick as well to your face and it will be very difficult to get off (and also can rub off on your pillows, bedsheets and clothes). It’s best to start with too much coconut oil than too little.

I prefer to use coconut oil because it leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth in contrast with olive oil that leaves your skin feeling dryer. This homemade peel off face mask does double duty as a skin treatment and acne cure. Coconut oil kills acne-causing bacteria, while papain softens and removes dead skin cells.

  3. Add lemon juice

Now add the juice of 1-2 lemons to your egg white mixture. As you do this, note that your face mask will probably fizz inside the bowl. This is because of the lemon’s acidity, so make sure you get all the ingredients mixed evenly together.

You could also use lime, plain orange or pineapple juices. It really doesn’t matter which is used, as long as there is some sort of acid in the juice. This ingredient will assist in exfoliating the dead skin bumping around on your face.

As you know, lemon juice is an acid so you don’t want to put it directly on your face. Instead, place 2 tablespoons of lemon juice in a bowl with ¼ cup of water. Mix this with a fork until it forms a consistent paste. Make sure the consistency isn’t too runny or too thick. If it’s too runny, it will be harder for the mask to peel off smoothly.

You can see in the pictures how easy it is to create your own peel off face mask. Whatever you use, the idea to remember is that the mixture should be opaque, sticky, and just a bit runny. If it’s any thicker than that, then the result will be a flaky mess that may well crack but won’t come off in one piece.

Another reason why lemon juice is amazing for your face is that it helps lighten skin spots and freckles. If you suffer from pigmentation problems such as age spots, sun damage, freckles and dark spots, you’ll benefit from using lemon juice with baking soda.

  4. Brush on a layer

Brush an even layer of peel-off base over the entire face with a brush. When it comes to applying a peel off face mask, make sure you brush the liquid onto your skin using a soft brush. This will ensure that it’s spread evenly and achieves that perfect, even coverage, rather than simply blotting it on with your fingers.

You are now ready to brush on a layer of the peel off face mask. Remember the thicker the layer, the longer it will take to dry. This may cause you to want to scrape it off just before it dries, but don’t let that happen!

Brush on a layer of the peel off mask in a circular motion. Make sure all areas are covered. Then, moving from the outside in, brush another layer onto your face with even strokes.

Brush on a layer of the peel off face mask mixture and let dry for around 5-15 minutes depending on your preference. Make sure you rub in the peel off face mask while it is still wet, this will reduce the amount of peeling that occurs once it is completely dry. You should see a thin layer of peeled gel over your skin which will be mostly white. This is what you want to avoid losing later.

Brush a thin layer of the peel-off base make up onto your face evenly, using the applicator brush. Make sure you cover your entire face and don’t leave any spot uncovered because this won’t be pretty and you could mess up your whole look when it comes to peeling off the next step.

  5. Stick paper towel

In this step, you’ll place the paper towel on your face. This will act as an anchor for when you pull off the mask, it’ll help to peel up from the bottom of your face.

It’s the fun step and it involves paper towels! Just grab a few old paper towels and tear them into pieces. Try to tear small squares that fit in the holes you’ve created.

Most peel-off face masks are much easier to remove if you have something backing up the sheet mask as it dries. Paper towel is typically used, but I’m not a big fan of paper towel and wanted to see if wax paper would work just as good at removing my face mask. It didn’t.

Popular face masks are usually made using cellophane sheets, rubber gloves, and hair caps because they drive me crazy to take them off. So I thought why not use a paper towel because it’s cheaper than the cellophane sheets and rubber gloves and easier to take off?

Now, it is time to apply the mask onto your skin. Take the completed peeled off paper strip and place it onto your face as shown in the photo on the left. This will help you position the mask evenly on your face. Next, apply the rest of the mask to your face with clean hands. The excess should go beyond your hairline if possible.

  6. Layer on paper

In the 6th step of this peel off mask craft tutorial, you are going to apply the second layer of our mixture on top of the previously applied paper. This may seem like too much mixture but it really isn’t, and as I mentioned above you can always add more if you tend to an oily face.

Now we have to take all of the ingredients we mixed together and place them on top of our chosen base. How did we choose the base? By determining which layer between the paper had the strongest shape. If you used spray, you should have a nice thin layer spread across the page.

The final layer on the paper will be the mixture of activated lemon and coconut solution. This final layer should be fairly thick — not too thick, but enough to distribute the mixture onto the face evenly.

Here is a final tip! The peel off will work a lot better if you use wax paper as the bottom layer. It sticks more to the back and front after you have applied them rather than just peeling right off.

So here you are, layer by layer – a peel off face mask on your face. This part should be fun! You can really get creative. If you want a star, cut it out and glue it on. Maybe some snowflakes?

  7. Wait to dry

The peel off face mask is about to be revealed! The next step in your process is very important: waiting. I know, it’s so hard to wait! You just want to get going and do something else. But you MUST wait for the mask to dry before proceeding with the next step.

Now that the mask is on, just lay back, relax, and wait. There’s no need to rush this part. It takes about 20 minutes to dry completely, so get comfortable and take a nap if you want.

You’ve done the hard work of mixing your ingredients, and stirring the mixture until it’s nice and thick. Now you wait. Wait for the mixture to slightly dry/harden before peeling off that bad boy.

So, how long do you let the peel off face mask dry for? This will vary depending on what ingredients are in your mask. My personal preference is 20 minutes because that’s when it starts to dry a little. Obviously if I’m only doing my eyes or lips, I would leave those for longer. Waiting until the peel off face mask has completely dried before carefully peeling off will ensure that you don’t pull your skin out with it!

Once you’ve applied the peel off face mask and allowed it to dry for 15-20 minutes, it’ll be ready to peel off. Before peeling the mask off make sure your face is dry so your skin doesn’t get damaged from pulling the mask off.

  8. Peel off

In the previous steps you have prepared your face mask and applied it evenly on your face. Now, let’s continue with the last step – peeling it off.

This step is kind of self-explanatory, but I’ll go a little extra just to be sure. Just make your little heart’s content until you’ve used all the mixture you made earlier and when you’re ready to pull it off, try some cool tricks like pulling it off sideways/diagonally or pulling it towards your ear that makes the process much faster. You won’t have any problem getting it off as long as you don’t rub too fast (which means you might have to pull the peeled part over your lips).

Once you’ve peeled off the DIY mask, don’t touch your face and leave it as it is at least for the next 15 minutes. This will give your skin the time to relax and soften so that cleanser can remove the hair easily. The mask will take about 15 minutes to dry completely which is why you need to wait a bit longer than usual.

Peeling off the face mask is a good sign of whether it has done its job. It is a kind of reward. Usually, you can feel the sticky and slimy layer being peeled off with the face mask. If not, give it another minute or two.

Ahah – you’ve just done something pretty awesome. You made your own peel off face mask. Don’t you feel….empowered. You’ve become a DIY beauty goddess!
